about

I wrote this song in senior year of high school as it became clear that my then long time girlfriend and I would be going to different colleges. The distance wasn't terribly far, although being much farther than before was going to be hard. Her being a very good singer, I originally wrote the song to feature her singing on the bridge and last chorus with me, but as we broke up sometime in freshman year of college, we had to find someone else to take her place on the track. Fortunately, the talented Kimberly Grace Knap came in and killed her part. We are really lucky to have her contribution. Structurally, this song is one of the more straightforward tracks on the album, but there's some fun textures. And I'd like to think its pretty catchy. We think it's a good way to open the record.

lyrics

Once upon a time two years ago, you took root and started to grow into a part of me. Now everywhere I see fields of your eyes. The moon is covered in your skin / your breath, the air I'm breathing / as real as my own face, my arms or my legs / I can't stand apart from you; you're as necessary as food.

"Stay," her heart screams as her words send me away. Don't wanna go, but if it must be so, I pray that you know: your heart will always be home.

I'll wipe away your tears, helpless to calm your fears. All of the words that I say only keep the nightmares at bay. I know what lies ahead: late calls from separate beds. The pain in my chest, it grows. Empty where your roots took hold. "Oh, hello." Only feeling you through my phone.

"I don't wanna say goodbye, but I'll settle for goodnight. Dreams of you inside my head until the morning comes, and you'll be by my side." We'll wait for the dawn, and when the morning comes, I'll come sprinting home. I'll never let you go.

about

We by the Sea Athens, Georgia

Concert-goers have called us "edgy indie rock" and "a blend of post hardcore and indie." We like to say it's rock with a lot of punk, indie, and metal influences. Debut album Bon Voyage, out now.
